Accident Sickness and Unemployment
What is accident, sickness and unemployment insurance?
Accident, sickness and unemployment insurance, or 'ASU', is there to take up some of the burden of repaying your mortgage payments if you are not able to work because of illness, accident or compulsory redundancy.
Allowing for a 30 or 60 non-payment period the cover will, most often, cover your mortgage payments from six months up to two years. The payments will cease when you return to work. One point to note is that the majority of policies do not cover casual workers, part-time workers or the self-employed who become unemployed.
Most ASU policies don't cover those claims related to your health problems if those problems already were evident before you took out the policy, beware that you are unlikely to be covered if old ailments flare up.
As with all these things is important to seek out professional advice before you committee to any insurance policy.
